After a 13-2 rout at the hands of Spring Arbor in the first round of the MCC Tournament, the Foresters bounced back with a 10-0 victory over Goshen, but then had their season brought to a close with a disappointing 3-2 loss to Taylor.
Spring Arbor tallied 15 hits in the first game to just five for HU. The Cougars got their offense going with three runs in the top of the second and they kept rolling with four runs in the third and fourth and two more in the fifth. The Foresters got both of their runs in the third, but couldn't muster any more offense.
Lauren Ward went four innings in the loss for HU. She gave up 11 runs on 13 hits and five walks while striking out five. No one had more than one hit for the Foresters.
In the Foresters' second game, Ward pitched a two-hit shut out and struck out nine Goshen batters to earn her tenth win of the season. HU built a 3-0 lead through six innings and then put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh. April Snider opened the floodgates with a lead off double and finished the seven-run inning with a single to put the game away.
For HU, Laura Baas had two hits in the game, including a double and drove in two runs and Kendra Stahl added a single and a triple, two runs scored and a RBI.
Against Taylor, the Foresters battled the Trojans, but couldn't put together enough hits as they stranded eight runners in the 3-2 loss.
Taylor drew first blood with two runs in the top of the fourth, but HU got one of them back in their half of the frame. Taylor made it 3-1 with a run in the fourth and again the Foresters cut it to one with a run in the sixth. Stahl got a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh and Brittney Bateman moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt, but that was a far as she would get.
Ashley Scally went the distance in the loss for HU. She gave up three runs on seven hits and she struck out two. Snider had a double and a RBI.
The Foresters conclude their season with a 16-20 record, which is the most wins in a season since the spring of 1986.
