HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Huntington University slugger Katie Bowers was named the softball Mid-Central Conference (MCC) Player of the Week for the week of April 30-May 6, 2012.
Bowers, the MCC’s top hitter, helped lead the Forester softball team to a 6-2 record last week. The junior second baseman went 14-for-25 for .560 which included two homeruns to go along with a pair of doubles and triples. Her slugging percentage for the week was an off-the-chart 1.040. She also scored 13 runs and drove in seven more.
As one of the most dangerous hitters in the nation, Bowers currently ranks in the NAIA’s top ten in four different offensive categories which includes 5th in triples (7), 7th in batting average (.485), 9th in slugging percentage (.882) and 9th in triples per game (.159). For the year she has logged 66 hits including 29 for extra bases, 43 runs and 37 RBI. She has drawn 11 walks and been hit by nine pitches while only striking out 12 times.
Bowers, an exercise science major, hails from Silver Lake, Indiana (Manchester High School).
