Seven Foresters earn All-American Scholar Athlete honors

HUNTINGTON , IN — Seven Huntington College Scholar-Athletes were recently presented with the highest academic honor awarded to an individual within his or her respective sport. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) awards the All-American Scholar Athlete to junior and senior standing athletes that combine excellence in the classroom with outstanding skills on the playing field. For the fall season, two cross country harriers and five soccer players received the prestigious award.

Nicole Jacob is a senior psychology and sociology double major from Van Wert , Ohio . This is her first All-American Scholar Athlete award in women’s cross country. Jacob ran to a 138th place finish this year as the lone Forester representative to the NAIA Cross Country National Championships in Louisville , Ky. Jacob is also a member of the Forester track and field team and is a Dean’s List honoree.



Christopher Buehrer is a senior elementary education major from Archbold , Ohio. This is his second All-American Scholar Athlete honor for men’s cross country. He is a member of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society and Kappa Delta Pi (the International Honor Society for Educators). Buehrer is also a member of the Forester track and field team and is a Dean’s List honoree.




Denis Dreni is a senior computer science major from Tirana , Albania. This is his second All-American Scholar Athlete award in men’s soccer. Dreni has served as a transfer mentor a senate representative at Huntington College. He is a Dean’s List honoree.






Jeff Edgel is a senior elementary education major from Grand Ledge, Mich. This is his second All-American Scholar Athlete award in men’s soccer. Edgel has also been active in Huntington College theatre, is a Dean’s List honoree and has served as a transfer mentor.






Benjamin Gayed is a junior chemistry major from Huntington, Ind. This is his first All-American Scholar Athlete award in men’s soccer. Gayed is a Dean’s List honoree.






Amber Hirschy is a junior business management and economics double major from Huntington , Ind. This is her second All-American Scholar Athlete award in women’s soccer. She is a member of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society and is an active member of the Student Senate at Huntington College. Hirschy is a Dean’s List honoree.






Kristyn Bollig is a junior psychology major from Andover, Minn. This is her first All-American Scholar Athlete award in women’s soccer. She has been a member of campus worship teams and is a Dean’s List honoree.

The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past seven years, Huntington has produced 39 All-American honors and 78 All-American Scholar Athlete honors.
