Huntington University men’s soccer coach Russ Lawson announced that Bethany Christian High School standout, Stephen Pettifor, is the latest recruit to join his 2008 incoming class.
Pettifor is a center midfielder who has the versatility to play all midfield roles because of his ability to read the game and his decision-making skills in knowing when to get forward with penetrating runs in the box. As a senior captain, Pettifor tallied 12 goals, five of which were game-winners, and two assists while leading Bethany Christian to a Northern Indiana Soccer Conference (NISC) title. That production earned him spots on the NISC First Team and the Indiana State District II team.
“The coaching staff is thrilled that Stephen has decided to continue his playing career at Huntington,” says Lawson. “His vision and ability to win balls in the air are excellent. This will enable him to make a smooth transition to the physical play and speed of the collegiate game.”
Off the field, Pettifor will pursue his goal of making an impact on youth by studying Recreation and Sports Ministries at HU. Stephen is the son of Don and Mary Pettifor from Goshen, IN.
Huntington University is a Christian liberal arts university located in Huntington, IN with an enrollment of approximately 1100 students. Athletically, HU is a member of the Mid-Central Conference (MCC) and competes in fourteen NAIA intercollegiate sports for both men and women.
