MCC honors six soccer Foresters in post-season awards

Huntington, Ind.— The Mid-Central College Conference announced its soccer post-season awards with six Huntington College Foresters appearing on the list of honorees.

Coach Tom Datema was named the women’s soccer MCC Coach of the Year. He led the Lady Foresters to a program-record nine wins against nine losses for the year and a fourth-place finish in the conference in only the fifth year of the program’s history at HC.

Women’s soccer players Erin Abbey from Millbury, Ohio, and Christi Shook from Franklin, Ind.,were named first-team All-Conference for their accomplishments on the field. Abbey and Shook led the Forester attack throughout the season with Abbey tallying a school record 18 goals and adding seven assists, while Shook netted 16 goals of her own and dished out eight assists.

Three men’s soccer players received recognition as well. Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Hamilton from Plymouth, Tobago, was selected first-team All-Conference, while brothers Tim and Luke Caldwell from Mansfield, Ohio, received second-team honors. Hamilton, the top vote-getter among the conference keepers, recorded 104 saves on the season. The Caldwell’s each scored a team-high nine goals, while Luke dished out 11 assists and Tim added five. The men finished seventh in the conference and ended their season with a record of 7-11-1.

The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past six years, Huntington has produced 38 All-America honors and 60 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington College is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 60 academic concentrations. US News & World Report ranks Huntington among the Top 10 comprehensive colleges in the Midwest.
