Lawson adds VanWagoner

Huntington University men’s soccer coach, Russ Lawson announced that Western High School standout Kyle VanWagoner has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Huntington University this fall.
As a senior, VanWagoner’s impact was felt on the back line as his steady and disciplined play helped the Panthers secure a District 19 Division II Championship in the state of Michigan. His play this past fall was also instrumental in helping Western win 11 consecutive games while recording 11 shutouts. As a result of his achievements on the field, VanWagoner was named the Southern Michigan Athletic Association All-Conference team.

“What impresses me most about Kyle is his desire to put his team first,” said Coach Lawson. “Personal accolades like his All-Conference selection is a little side note because he is always anxious to talk about being a part of a team that set records for consecutive wins and season shutouts. That attitude combined with his ability to read the game will help him transition well to the collegiate level.”

Off the field VanWagoner is looking to make an impact in the classroom as an elementary education major. He is the son of Richard and Linda from Jackson, MI.
