HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Friday that 315 men's soccer student-athletes have been named 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Among the list of honorees were Huntington University athletes Isaac Beal, Wes Johnson, Drew Mattingly and James Parker.
Beal, a two-time Scholar Athlete recipient, is a senior defender from Greenfield, Ind. Greenfield Central H.S.) majoring in mathematics.
Wes Johnson (Danville, Ind., Covenant Christian H.S.) is a junior recreation management major. He served as a defender for HU this past fall.
Drew Mattingly, an All-Conference goalie from Floyd Knobs, Ind. (Christian Academy of Indiana), is a junior majoring in exercise science.
James Parker hails from Port Elizabeth, South Africa (Harvest Christian H.S.). He is a junior forward for the Foresters and is an exercise science major.
Student-athletes are nominated by their institution's head coach and must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status in order qualify for the honor.
