Essig named Forester Athlete of the Week

HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of October 22-28, 2012. Men’s soccer Jake Essig earned the honor for his outstanding effort over the weekend.

Playing in front of a home crowd Saturday afternoon, the Foresters were in a must-win situation in order to secure a spot in postseason play. HU found its answer by way of Essig, a junior midfielder from Monroe, Ohio (Monroe High School).

Essig accounted for all of HU’s scoring by logging a pair of goals to spur HU on to a 2-0 win over the University of Saint Francis. With this win, HU wraps up the 8th spot in league play and has the chance to knock-off top-seeded Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday in first round action of the conference tournament.

To date, he has tallied ten points this season by scoring four goals and assisting two others.

The Foresters (8-8-2, 3-6) will look to avenge a 1-0 loss to the Wildcats back on September 29.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 46 NAIA All-America honors and 202 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
