SMYRNA, Tenn. - It was history in the making this past weekend as the HU women’s bowling team competed in the program’s first ever USBC collegiate sectionals at the Smyrna Bowling Center in Smyrna, Tennessee where they finished 13th out of 17 teams with 10,414 pins.
All teams bowled 64 Baker games over two days with the top four teams from each sectional advancing to the 2013 xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships to be held April 18-20 at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb.
In individual action on Friday, Emily O’Leary and Casandra Griffith averaged 161.8 and 145.8 respectively but did not place in the top 50.
The Forester women wrap up their season with the NAIA Invitational at Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis on March 22-24.
Three Foresters competed in the men’s individual sectional with Tyler Carroll averaging a 208.5 to pace HU with a 13th place finish out of 168 bowlers. The Roanoke native was just 46 pins from earning a spot at the national singles tournament.
Connor Brown also had a strong showing. He led the tournament after two games before settling for a 22nd finish with his 205.3 average, just missing the cut to nationals by 65 pins. Bryan Myers finished the tournament with a 145.1 average.
Forester bowlers Dan Binkoski and Peter Hanson were named to 2012-13 National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association Academic All-American Team as announced at sectionals. Collegiate team members with a GPA of 3.5 or higher were named to this team.
