HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Huntington University men’s basketball team has added its first recruit for the 2013 season with the signing of Columbia City High School standout Drew Benedict.
The 5-10 guard comes to HU as one of the state’s best shooters. With his senior season yet to come, Benedict currently holds the school record for most 3-pointers made and attempted for a season and career and is on pace to score over 1,000 points and finish his prep career as one of the top five scorers in Eagle history.
As a junior, Benedict averaged 12.7 points, with just under nine points coming from behind the 3-point line, and 2.8 assists per contest. The three-time Northeast Hoosier All-Conference selection has drained 183 threes to date at a clip of 37.8 percent.
His sharp-shooting is well documented around the state as evidenced by his selection as a two-time IBCA All-State Underclassman and three-time participant at the IBCA Top 100 Workout.
Huntington University head coach, Ty Platt, is looking forward to Benedict’s contributions. "We are excited that Drew has decided to be a Forester. Drew is a very good shooter and scorer, understands the game very well, and has a real toughness about him.
“He has been a vital part of a lot of success in high school, playing in one of the best programs in the state. We think those things will translate into Drew having a great four year career at HU."
