Merryman earns Athlete of the Week honors

HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of November 19-25, 2012. Men’s basketball junior Shane Merryman earned the honor for his outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

Merryman, a physical education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Carroll High School), paced the Foresters to an 89-85 upset win over 4th-ranked NAIA Division I Robert Morris University on Friday night of the Grace College Classic. He poured in a career-best 30 points on 12-for-13 shooting. He also ripped down a game-high 12 rebounds to post his second double double of the season.

On Saturday against Missouri Baptist, the 6-5 forward recorded 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists in HU’s 78-73 overtime loss.

Merryman is currently shooting a team-best 60.6 percent (43-for-71) which ranks him 19th in the NAIA Division II for field goal percentage. He also leads the team in scoring (19.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.0 rpg).

Huntington (3-3) opens up conference play on Tuesday when they travel to the University of Saint Francis for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. 
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 46 NAIA All-America honors and 202 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
