HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Crossroads League announced its postseason awards for the 2012-13 basketball season and amongst the list of honorees was Huntington University junior Shane Merryman.
The 6-5 forward was named First Team All-Conference as voted on by the coaches. It marks the third consecutive year that a Forester has earned First Team All-Conference honors.
Merryman is leading the conference in scoring (21.62 ppg) and field goal percentage (61.6%) while ranking 2nd only to teammate TJ Short in free throw percentage (83.3%) and 8th in total rebounds per game (6.34).
His offensive success has also garnered national attention as he currently ranks 7th in NAIA Division II in field goal percentage, 8th in scoring and 15th in free throw percentage.
Merryman has established quite a name for himself within the conference having earned All-Conference accolades each of his three years in a Forester uniform. Named to the All-Newcomer Team as a freshman, he went on to earn Third Team All-Conference honors last year before landing a spot on the First Team this year.
The Fort Wayne native (Carroll HS) scored a career high 35 points against Goshen College on February 12. To date he has accumulated 1,280 career points which places him 27th on HU’s all-time scoring list.
