Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 5-11. Women’s track and field freshman Michelle Kyler and men’s basketball senior Alex Kock earned the honor for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competition.
Michelle Kyler, a freshman from Columbia City, Ind. (Columbia City High School), helped lead the Foresters to a first place finish at the Ohio Northern University Invitational with her performance. Kyler won the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:26.70 and ran a leg of the distance medley relay team that took first place with a time of 13:44.28. Kyler also took second place in the pole vault and set a school record in the process with her leap of 9-06.25. The Foresters return to action on Feb. 17 when they travel to Greencastle, Ind., to compete in the DePauw University Invitational at 11 a.m.
Alex Kock, a physical education and health major from Auburn, Ind., (DeKalb High School), averaged 30.5 points and 10.5 rebounds to help lead Huntington to two more wins during the week. Against Spring Arbor, Kock netted 30 points and grabbed 11 boards, as well as, scored the 2000th point of his career in the Foresters’ 72-54 victory, and in Huntington’s 76-71 victory over NAIA Division II 3rd-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University, he took game-high honors with 31 points on 12-17 shooting and added 10 rebounds. Huntington (24-4, 12-2) will return to action on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. when they travel to Goshen College.
