Foresters topple Warriors 80-64

Huntington, Ind. - The Forester men’s basketball team toppled the Warriors of Rochester College 80-64 in non-conference action Tuesday night. With this win, HU moves to 9-3 on the season.

The Warriors’ only lead came of the night came in the opening minute of play but it was short-lived as the Foresters never trailed after taking a 5-4 lead at the 17:39 mark. They went on to outscore Rochester 22-8 in a run that saw six different Foresters put points on the board to take a 27-12 lead by the midway point of the half. HU scored 22 points in the paint, shot 61.3% from the field and committed only one turnover to climb their lead to 46-29 by halftime.

The first nine minutes of the second period was more of the same as Huntington extended their lead to 26 at 67-41. The Warriors chipped away at the lead to trim it to 13 with just under two minutes remaining but they would get no closer as the Foresters cruised to the 16-point win.

Caleb Kennedy led a balanced Forester attack with 19 points and 12 rebounds for his fourth double double of the season. Shane Merryman netted 15 while TJ Short and Ryan Boester tossed in 12 and 11 points respectively. Stephan Henning led the Warriors with 15 points and a game-high five assists. Joining him in double digits was Dramell Hogan with 14, Sean Mattia with 11 and Ricky Doran with 10.

The Foresters hit the road on Saturday to take on Saint Xavier University at 3:00 p.m.
