In their home opener, the HU men's basketball team (3-0) remained undefeated with a 99-87 victory over Madonna University on Tuesday night.

It was a slow start for both teams as the score after eight minutes was 10-8 in favor of the Foresters. In between bouts of sloppy turnovers and layups that rolled off the rim by both teams, the rest of the half was characterized by alternating runs in which HU came out on top with a 40-32 advantage at the halftime buzzer. Caleb Kennedy and Kellen Zawadzki handled the bulk of Huntington's scoring in the first stanza by scoring 14 and 11 points respectively.

Zawadzki and Crusader guard Bryant Slaughter came out of the half firing on all cylinders as the lit up the Merillat Complex by scoring 14 and 17 points respectively in the first eight minutes of play. Down 69-60 at the 12:08 mark, the Crusaders went on a 10-2 run over a four-minute span to close within one but the Foresters answered with a run of their own. An old fashioned three-point play by Shane Merryman with just over four minutes left on the clock put the Foresters back up by nine, 86-77. A driving lay-up by Colin Featherston and back-to-back buckets in the paint by Kennedy held the Crusaders at bay as HU cruised to the 99-87 win.

Zawadzki finished with a career-high 32 points. He knocked down seven treys and dished out a game-high six assists. Kennedy also turned in a career best of 23 points and grabbed a team-high nine boards. Tyler Shively scored 16 points in the second half to finish with 20. Slaughter led Madonna with 32 points. Also scoring in double-digits for the Crusaders were Kevin Henry with 18, Bobby Naubert and Ryan Waidmann with 11 each and Geoff Gaylor with 10. Gaylor also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
