Foresters open season with road win

In their season opener against Indiana Tech, the HU men's basketball team took care of business at Schaefer Center Gymnasium with a convincing 76-60 win over the Warriors.

The lead went back and forth through the first six minutes of play as both teams worked out opening game jitters but the Foresters went on a tear by knocking down five 3s in a six-minute span to take a 28-12 lead at the 7:21 mark. It didn't take long for the momentum to shift as several Forester miscues and missed shots allowed the Warriors to scrap and fight their way back into the game to cut HU's lead to four, 33-29, by halftime.

The Foresters came out of the locker room with renewed energy as they quickly built their lead back to 16 within the first five minutes of play. It knocked the wind right out of the Warriors' sails as they would get no closer than 12 points the rest of the night.

The Foresters shot a sizzling 64.7 percent (11-for-17) from behind the arc while committing only 10 turnovers. They out rebounded Tech 42-34.

Kellen Zawadzki topped all scorers with 23 points for the Foresters. He was joined in double figures by Tyler Shively with 22, Caleb Kennedy with 12 and Chris Kent with 10. Kennedy also grabbed 10 boards for the double double. Tech was led by Manny Hendrix with 20 points while Rodney Bartholomew finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
