Foresters notch first win of season over GLCC

LANSING, Mich. - The HU men’s basketball team (1-1) posted its first win of the season with an 85-75 road victory over Great Lakes Christian College (0-3) Tuesday night.

After building a ten-point lead in the first half, 41-31, Huntington played even with GLCC to hang on for the double digit win.

The Foresters camped out on the free throw line, knocking down 39 of their 49 attempts, while limiting the Crusaders to five free tosses on the night. The visitors also dominated the boards, collecting 33 rebounds to GLCC’s 21.

TJ Short paced HU with a career-best 29 points which included going 11-for-13 from the free throw line. Shane Merryman added 20 points while Colin Featherston came off the bench to finish with 11 points by going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 4-for-4 from the line. Stephen Jones tallied a game-high 12 boards.

Devin Jefferson and Maurice Jordan each finished with 14 points to lead the Crusaders.

Huntington hosts the Ness Bros./Hall of Fame Tournament this weekend where they will face Concordia University (Mich.) at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
