Foresters Drop Two in a Row

The Foresters dropped their second MCC game in a row falling 87-84 to the University of St. Francis in overtime. From the opening tip, HC had its hands full as the Cougars, fueled by a rowdy home crowd, jumped out to an 11-0 lead. The Foresters were still down eight with just under nine minutes to go, but used an 18-10 run to close out the half and knotted the score at 28-28 at the break. The second half began with four ties and four lead changes until HC put together a small run to mount a six-point lead at 55-49 with 6:38 left in regulation. USF then made its run backed by a pair of Trey Eaton threes to re-claim the lead for the Cougars at 58-57. Five more ties followed with the final one coming on a Kyle Ganton bucket with 15 second to play to tie the score at 69-69. USF's Chase Holden put up a shot at the buzzer, but it was off the mark sending the game to an extra period. In the overtime, the Cougars took an 83-77 lead on a Holden jumper with :34 left, but the Foresters wouldn't go away. Two free throws from Ganton and a three from Chase Verba brought HC within one at 82-83, but the Cougars went 4-4 from the charity stripe in the final 15 seconds to seal the win. The loss spoiled a career-high effort from Ganton, who led all scorers in the game with 32 points. He was 8-15 from the field, including 2-5 from behind the arc, and 14-15 from the line. Alex Kock finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, Steve snider chipped in 13 points and Adam Bontreger finished with 11. Eaton and Holden led the Cougar attack with 28 and 21 points respectively. With the loss, the Foresters fall to 15-8 on the season and 7-3 in conference play.
