Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington College athletic department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of February 3-9, 2003. Women’s basketball sophomore Jessah Martin and men’s basketball freshman Chase Verba earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.
Martin, a psychology major from Roanoke, Ind. (Bellmont High School), scored 24 points and Wednesday against Goshen on 7-of-12 shooting. She also dished out nine assists in the 10-point victory for the Foresters. In Saturday’s one-point loss to Marian, Martin scored nine points while grabbing five rebounds and finding her teammates for five assists. Martin is a Dean’s List honoree. The Lady Foresters are 11-13 overall, 4-6 in the MCC.
Verba, an undecided major from Angola, Ind. (Angola High School), continued his all-around contributions on the court. In Tuesday’s win over Goshen, he scored 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting, grabbing 11 rebounds with five blocks and three steals. In Saturday’s contest at Marian, Verba scored 12 points with eight rebounds, one block and two steals. The Foresters are 21-6 overall, 7-3 in the MCC.
The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past six years, Huntington has produced 39 All-America honors and 67 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
