HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Head Coach Mark Green inked his first recruit for the 2012-13 season in Plainfield High School standout Rylan Porter. Porter has recently signed his letter of intent to continue his education and golf career at Huntington University this fall.
Porter has established himself as one of the top high school golfers in Indiana as evidenced by the plethora of awards earned throughout his prep career. As a sophomore, this West Central Conference Champion shot a 69 at Regionals and for his efforts was named the IHSAA Regional Champion and qualified for State where he shot a 71-77. Last year’s highlight included being deemed the Mid-States Conference Champion (71).
No stranger to the IGA circuit, Porter was the 2010 Masters Tour Point Champion. That same summer he shot a 71-73 at the Age Group Championships good for runner-up honors.
This past summer he was the Hendricks County Champion (70) and qualified for the 2011 Optimist International World Golf Championships where he made the cut and turned in a 77-71-77-77.
“I am really excited to add a player of Rylan's ability to our golf team at Huntington,” commented Coach Green. “I am confident that he can step in and contribute right away next year as a freshman. I have really enjoyed getting to know Rylan and his family.”
Porter is the son of James and Jeannie Porter.
