Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington College Athletics Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of October 4-10, 2004. Soccer freshman Heather O’Keefe and men’s golf junior Andrew Porterfield earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

Heather O’Keefe, a freshman from Ada, Mich. (Forest Hills Central High School), helped lead the Forester soccer team to a 1-1 record in conference play with her two goals and two assists last week. In Huntington’s 3-0 win over Taylor University, O’Keefe got the Foresters on the board early with a goal in the third minute of play. In their 4-3 overtime loss to Bethel College, she scored the Foresters’ first goal of the game and set up teammates Beth Padilla and Sarah Kaufman with assists on their goals. For the season, O’Keefe has tallied ten goals, including a hat trick against Marian College on October 2 and five assists. The Foresters are currently 7-6 on the season and 3-3 in the Mid-Central Conference (MCC),. They next travel to Goshen College on Saturday, October 16, at 7:00 p.m.
Andrew Porterfield

Andrew Porterfield, a computer science major from Marion, Ind. (Eastbrook High School), was the lone Forester golfer selected to the MCC All-Conference team. Porterfield tied for third overall in the individual standings with his 76-stroke average in conference play to earn the honor. Porterfield also posted the team’s lowest average for the entire fall schedule averaging a 75.3 strokes per round. The golf team concluded the fall portion of its schedule with a sixth-place finish in the conference.
The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past seven years, Huntington has produced 49 NAIA All-American honors and 91 All-American Scholar Athlete honors.
