INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Up against some of the steepest competition in the nation, the Forester golf team finished 11th out of 17 teams at the annual NAIA Classic hosted by Indiana Wesleyan Univeristy at the Brickyard Crossing in Indianapolis April 9-10.
Seven of the 17 teams are currently ranked in the NAIA Top 25 while two other squads are receiving votes.
Battling the wind and cold, HU posted a first round score of 315 on Monday. Sitting in tenth after the first 18 holes, the Foresters turned in a 318 on Tuesday to finish with a 633 and drop a spot in the standings.
Jordan Dawes shot a 147 (72, 75) to pace the Foresters and finish fourth overall out of 89 golfers. Devin Dale finished in a six-way tie for 32nd with a 158 (79, 79). Matt Wilson posted a 163 (82, 81) while Mickey Belt finished two strokes behind him with a 165 (82, 83). Josh Teulker rounded out HU’s scoring with a 169 (82, 87).
HU finished two strokes behind MCC foe Marian, eight strokes ahead of Bethel and ten strokes in front of Indiana Wesleyan to finish second among the other conference schools.
Malone University won the Classic with a 603 followed by Grand View (603), Point Loma Nazarene (611), Johnson & Wales (612), William Woods (618), Cumberlands (624), Lee (626), Holy Cross (626), Shorter (629), Marian (631), HU (633), The Master’s (639), Bethel (641), Indiana Wesleyan (643), Hannibal-LaGrange (644), Viterbo (648) and St. Ambrose (658).
The Foresters are back in action this weekend to compete in the Malone University Invitational.
