Johnson leads HU at Griak Invite

Forester senior Nick Johnson turned in an outstanding performance at the Roy Griak Cross Country Invitational at the University of Minnesota. Johnson won the small college race with a personal best time of 25:16. Click here to view Johnson's post-race interview.

Bolstered by Johnson's efforts, the NAIA 13th-ranked Foresters finished seventh in a field of 22 teams, which was a spot above NAIA second-ranked Black Hills State, who were the runners-up at last year's NAIA National Championships. Joseph Njeri also had a stellar performance finishing eighth in 25:46. Dan Lindbloom was 43rd in 26:53. Joseph Herber was 55th in 27:07 and Luke Diehl rounded out the HU scorers finishing 78th in 27:25. Other Forester harriers included Alec Rosario (117th 28:35) and Josh Barnett (139th, 30:04).

Drury won the team title with a score of 109 followed Pittsburg State (120), Minnesota State Mankato (128), Southwest Baptist (133), Concordia (NE) (144), Augustana (152), HU (185), Black Hills State (239), Indiana Wesleyan (249) and Michigan Tech (257) rounding out the top ten.

In the women's race, the harriers ran a 6K race instead of the normal 5K distance with HU finishing 24th in the team competition. Krystal McHenry was the Foresters' top finisher placing 124th in 26:25. Bradie Vance was not far behind in 129th place in 26:33. Jill Roughia finished 132nd in 26:44. Britley McConnell was 148th in 27:40. Joanna Stebing was 161st in 30:57 and Molly Shirey was 162nd in 32:42.

Augustana won the women’s championship with a score of 54 followed by Pittsburg State (129), Minnesota State Mankato (160), Minnesota-Duluth (161), Black Hills State (167), Southwest Baptist (168), Concordia (NE) (197), Minnesota State Moorhead (211), Indiana Wesleyan (214) and Manitoba (240) rounding out the top ten.
