Cody Hannie’s ninth place finish in the men’s NAIA Region VIII Championship was tops for the HC men and garnered him NAIA All-Region honors, which went to the top 12 finishers. Hannie and Spring Arbor’s Dan Lane finished in a tie with a time of 26:06. The Foresters placed fourth in the field of twelve with a score of 144. Aquinas College won the event with a score of 41, followed by Spring Arbor (83), Indiana Wesleyan (92), HC (144), Siena Heights (152), Taylor (153), Marian (188), Goshen (194), Bethel (219), Grace (245), Cornerstone (260), and St. Francis (322). Other runners scoring for HC were Joseph Waithira (27th, 27:08), David St. Louis (35th, 27:38), John Kagwanja (48th, 28:09), and Ross Luckett (50th, 28:15). “It was a very solid race to end the season,” said Coach King. “We were very competitive with some fine teams.”
On the women’s side, Molly Andrews paced the Foresters with her 42nd place finish in 20:20, her best time of the year. HC, who has been riddled with injuries during the season, had just five runners participate in the race. Emily Sealscott was second across the line for the Foresters with her 67th-place finish in 21:14; Brittany Harvey was 85th in 21:52; Julie Clawson was 90th in 22:09; and Leah Birkey was 91st in 22:12. Indiana Wesleyan won the meet with 39 points followed by Siena Heights (82), Aquinas, (93), Spring Arbor (110), Taylor (128), Goshen (133), Bethel (206), Marian (207), Grace (240), Cornerstone (245), HC (270), and St. Francis (328).
