WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The Forester cross country squads competed in the Grace College Invitational over the weekend where the 23rd-ranked women’s team claimed the title while the men brought home silver.
In the women’s 5K, Huntington left no doubt they were the best team in the field as the top seven finishers were all sporting Forester green and white. Leading the pack was freshman Krista Wood who crossed the line first in 19:28 with Gretchen Spahr not far behind in 19:30.
Hannah Moore and Erin Rockey finished in 19:39 and 19:56 respectively while Cendall Ogle rounded out HU’s scoring with her fifth place finish in 20:04 for a perfect team score of 15. Natalie Spahr claimed sixth in 20:18 while teammate Miranda Boyts took seventh with a time of 20:23.
The first five Foresters finished in 98:37, nearly a three-minute improvement over last year’s race where they combined for 102:34.
HU finished first with 15 points followed by Grace (74), Goshen (77), Mount Vernon (113), Saint Francis (123) and IU Kokomo (159).
In the men’s 8K, HU placed four runners in the top ten with freshman Tyler Herber leading the way with an overall finish of third in 26:45.
Josh Graham placed eighth in 27:15 and on his heels was Lance Wood (9th, 27:16) and Brian Menzie (10th, 27:17). Antonio Castillo grabbed 15th place in 28:01 to round HU’s top five.
Josh McIntyre’s time of 28:38 was good for 21st place while Ethan Medley finished 27th in 29:02.
Goshen took the men's title with 28 points followed by HU (41), Grace (89), Saint Francis (109), IU East (135), Mount Vernon (157) and IU Kokomo (187).
HU travels to Indiana State University on Friday to compete in the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships.
