KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its 2012 Women’s Cross Country Coaches’ Top 25 Poll earlier this week and Huntington University made the biggest leap in the rankings as it jumped nine spots, from No. 24 to No. 15.
Last weekend, the Foresters placed third at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge hosted by Aquinas College. In addition to finishing ahead of all of its league competitors, HU defeated three teams who were ranked in front of them last week including then-No. 12 Aquinas, then-No. 17 St. Francis (Ill.) and then-No. 20 Illinois Tech.
Gretchen Spahr paced Huntington by finishing 18th overall in 18:49. Cendall Ogle finished four seconds later to claim 22nd place in 18:53. Rounding out HU’s scoring was Hannah Moore (35th, 19:06), Krista Wood (42nd, 19:14-PR) and Erin Rockey (51st, 19:25)
Other HU finishers included Natalie Spahr (79th, 19:47-PR), Miranda Boyts (107th, 20:11-PR), Brittani Florian (21:08), Amanda Henningfield (21:25) and Alyssa Haselby (23:47).
The Foresters have a week until the Crossroads Championships slated for November 3rd at Indiana Wesleyan University.
