Cross country seniors Natalie Guenin and John Ngure earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the E. DeWitt Baker Invitational on Saturday, October 5.
Guenin, an elementary education major from Wabash, Ind. (Northfield High School), finished first in Saturday’s E. DeWitt Baker Invitational at Huntington College. Guenin’s time of 18:50 was her best of the season thus far and led a 1-2-3 Forester sweep for top finishes. Her winning effort helped lead the team to the championship trophy by three points over Indiana Wesleyan and four points over Spring Arbor. Guenin is no stranger to running success as she has competed at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships on two occasions and earned Mid-Central College Conference honors in both cross country and track and field numerous times. Ngure, an exercise science major from Thaika, Kenya, placed first in the men’s division at the E. DeWitt Baker Invitational. His 6K time of 24:52 outlasted second-place runner David Rotich from Spring Arbor by 36 seconds and marked the first time this season that Ngure dipped under 25 minutes. As last year’s NAIA National runner-up, Ngure has led his team all season to strong team performances, topping out this week with a championship trophy over second-place Spring Arbor by 13 team points. Ngure is an eight-time All-American runner for the Foresters. He’s earned three cross country All-American honors and five track and field All-American honors.
