After a run of five error-free games, the Foresters had three miscues and failed to execute in critical situations in their doubleheader with Marian College leading to a Knight sweep with scores of 5-4 and 4-0. In the opener, HC battled back from a 3-1 deficit with three runs in the top of the seventh, but couldn’t make their 4-3 lead stand. Marian pushed one across in their half of the seventh, forcing the game into overtime. The Knights kept the Foresters in check in the top of the eighth and then with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, they scored the game-winner. For the game, HC out-hit Marian 12-7, but didn’t put enough of them together. Thad Frame, Austan Kas, Brian Porter, and Levi Sell each had two hits in the game. Kas had the only extra-base hit with a double.
In the night cap, the Foresters could get nothing going at the plate. Although both teams had five hits, the Knights were able to generate four runs with their hits while HC was held scoreless. “We got beat twice because we didn’t handle key situations in both games and Marian College did,” said Coach Frame. “We are young and inexperienced, but it is time to make better decisions and execute the game.”
The two losses drop the Foresters to 9-17 on the season and 4-6 in conference play.
