HU sweeps St. Francis

The Foresters (13-14, 6-6) matched their win total from a year ago with a doubleheader sweep of the University of St. Francis, winning game one 7-1 and game two 4-1.

Kendra Stahl got HU on the board first with a two-run triple to deep center in the bottom of the third. The Foresters added three more in the fourth, and after giving up one to the Cougars in the fifth, HU put the game out of reach with a pair in the bottom of the inning.

Lauren Ward struck out 13 in the win while allowing one run on six hits and a walk in seven innings. Stahl finished the game 2-4 with two RBI. Brittany Gower also drove in two to go along with her 2-2 performance. Ashley McCann had two doubles, three runs scored and a RBI.

In the nightcap, Ashley Scally threw a complete-game three-hitter to secure the sweep. HU took the lead with a run in the second. Tabitha Truax doubled to left-center then stole third. Laura Baas then grounded out to short to score Truax. The score remained 1-0 until the Foresters added some cushion with three runs in the sixth. The Cougars made some noise in the top of the seventh with a leadoff triple that led to a run, but Scally finished the game with no more damage done.

HU had five different players with a hit in the game. Ward and Truax both had a double for the Foresters.
