Foresters bounce back to split with Trojans

After dropping two to Taylor last night, things didn't start off well for the Forester baseball team as they dropped their first game 10-0 but they battled back to win the nightcap, 8-6 in extra innings.

The first game seemed a repeat of last night's final match-up as the Trojans held the Foresters scoreless again. Taylor picked up three runs in the first, four more in the fifth and added three insurance runs in the sixth to make quick work of HU in six innings of play.

The Foresters finally got on track in game two. Headed into the fifth, the Trojans held a comfortable 4-0 lead but the Foresters answered with three runs in the top of the inning to close within 4-3. After singling to center, Travis Frantz crossed the plate on a Trojan error to start things off for HU. Jamon Hammel's two-run shot over the left field fence cut Taylor's lead to one. The Trojans answered with two runs in the sixth before HU tied things up 6-6 behind Christner's homerun shot to left and RBI-hits by Andrew Drummond and Frantz. The Foresters scored two go-ahead runs in the top of the ninth when Shell doubled to left center and Schultz knocked him in for HU's seventh run of the game. Drummond's RBI-double gave the Foresters the two-run cushion before Ty Mills recorded the save by taking down Taylor's first three batters to end the game.

In three innings of relief work, Frantz picked up the win for HU giving up one run on four hits and four walks while striking out one. Drummond paced HU at the plate with three hits and two RBI while Shell, Schultz and Frantz each collected two hits in the game.
