Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of October 10-16, 2005. Volleyball junior Amy Wilson and men’s soccer sophomore Joel Sanders earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.
Amy Wilson, a math education major from Wabash, Ind. (Northfield High School), helped lead the volleyball team to a 4-0 week, including the Taylor University Tournament title. In the Foresters’ 3-2 win over Indiana Tech on Thursday, Wilson led Huntington with 19 kills and three aces. On the weekend, she dominated the net for the Foresters in all three matches to finish with 68 kills in the tournament. In Huntington’s 3-2 win over the host Trojans, Wilson finished the match with 22 kills and a .527 hitting percentage, two blocks and 16 digs.
She and teammate Renee Biberstine were selected to the All-Tournament team. The Foresters are now 13-8 on the season and next host conference rival Marian College on Wednesday, October 19 at 7 p.m.
Joel Sanders, an elementary education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High School), helped the Foresters secure a victory in a “must win” game against conference foe Grace College. Sanders netted a goal and dished out two assists to lead Huntington to the 3-1 win over the Lancers. Sanders has tallied three goals and seven assists on the season to date. The Foresters next travel to Chicago to take on Moody Bible Institute on Tuesday, October 18 at 1 p.m.
