Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of March 16-22. Women’s softball sophomore Megan Smith and men’s baseball senior Edwin Rodriguez earned the honor for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.
Megan Smith, an exercise science major from Rockford, Ohio (Parkway High School), had an exceptional week helping lead the softball team to a 7-3 start in a spring break tournament in Tucson, Ariz. Smith went 12 for 28 at the plate for a .429 batting average and knocked in a team-high eight RBI in 10 games. She also stole two bases. The Foresters return to action on March 24 when they travel to Marian College for a 3 p.m. start.
Edwin Rodriguez
Edwin Rodriguez, an accounting major from Aericibo, Puerto Rico, had an outstanding week at the plate for Huntington on its spring break trip in Florida. Rodriguez hit .450 for the week with nine hits in 20 at-bats. Six of his nine hits were for extra bases including four doubles and two homeruns. He also drove in a team-high 12 runs to help lead the Foresters to a 4-2 record during the week. Huntington (7-8) begins conference play on March 24 when travel to Goshen College at 1 p.m.
