Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 10-16. Women’s volleyball sophomore Alyssa Schroeder and men’s golf freshman Justin McMillen earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.
Alyssa Schroeder, an elementary education major from Huntington, Ind. (Huntington North High School), helped lead Huntington to a 4-1 record for the week. Schroeder came up big in the Foresters 3-0 win over the University of St. Francis with her 37 assists, seven aces, seven digs and two blocks. At the Manchester Tournament on the weekend, Schroeder averaged 11.6 assists per game to help HU go 3-1. She was the lone Forester selected to the All-Tournament team. The Foresters (11-3) return to action on Sept. 18 when they travel to Goshen College for a 7 p.m. start.
Justin McMillen
Justin McMillen, a digital media arts major from Pana, Ill. (Pana High School), played an instrumental role in the Foresters’ back-to-back wins during the week. In the Jon P. Spiess Memorial Classic, he shot a two-under-par 70 to earn medalist honors and at the Bethel Invitational played in a Ryder Cup format, McMillen teamed with Dan Schroeder for a 76 in the alternate shot competition. Huntington (19-3) next travels the University of St. Francis Invitational on Sept. 18.
