Palmer named Forester Athlete of the Week

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of January 20, 2014.  Women’s basketball freshman Miranda Palmer earned the honor for her outstanding effort this past week. 

Palmer, a native of Findlay, Ohio, averaged 21.5 points and 3.5 assists this past week to lead the Foresters to a pair of Crossroads League victories. In the week’s opener against Bethel, the 5-6 guard poured in a career-best 25 points on 6-of-7 shooting which included four from downtown. She also handed out three assists in HU’s 96-55 win over the Pilots.

Three days later against Grace, Palmer played anything like a rookie as she scored 18 points which included a clutch trey at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. She also tallied five points in the second overtime where her team finally outlasted the Lancers for the 76-74 win.

On the year, Palmer has knocked down 20 3-pointers at a clip of 41.7 percent. She is currently averaging 6.7 points and 2.6 assists per outing.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 39 NAIA All-America honors and 213 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
