Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of February 27-March 5, 2006. Men’s basketball junior Kyle Ganton earned the honor for his excellent effort during the week’s competitions.
Kyle Ganton, an elementary education major from Coldwater, Mich. (Bronson High School), helped lead Huntington University to the Mid-Central Conference Tournament title with his outstanding all-around performance in the Championship game on Tuesday. In the Foresters’ 68-44 win over Taylor University, Ganton took game-high honors with his 20 points to go along with eight rebounds and three assists. He went 7-10 from the field, including 2-4 from behind the arc, and 4-5 from the line. Heading into national tournament play in Branson, Missouri, Ganton leads the NAIA Division II in three-point shooting with his 51.4 percent shooting percentage. The Foresters (28-5) earned the second seed in the NAIA National Tournament and will face Fisher College (16-14) out of Boston, Mass., in first round action on Thursday, March 9, 2006, at 4 p.m. (CST).
