Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington College athletics department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of February 23-29, 2004. Track and field freshmen Brittany Fillman and Cody Hannie earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week.
Brittany Fillman, a freshman from Markle, Ind. (Norwell High School), helped lead the Foresters to a fifth-place finish at the Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational at Anderson University on Saturday. Fillman claimed the team’s lone first-place finish in the meet by winning the 400 meter race. Her time of 1:01.95 was a personal best in her young collegiate career. Fillman also ran in Huntington’s 4x200 relay that finished second with an outstanding combined time of 1:52.15 and ran a leg in the 4x400 relay that placed fourth with a time of 4:25.18.
Cody Hannie, an English Education major from Ft. Wayne, Ind. (Snider High School), had an outstanding individual performance to help lead the Foresters to a fourth-place finish at the Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational at Anderson University. Hannie paced the Foresters with his first-place finish in the 800 meter race with a time of 1:58.53, a personal best, and ran the anchor leg in Huntington's 4x400 relay that took second with a time of 3:30.69. Earlier this season, Hannie met NAIA provisional qualification standards in the 1000 meter run, which guarantees him an opportunity to compete at the NAIA Indoor National Track and Field Championships in Johnson City, Tenn., later this week.
The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past seven years, Huntington has produced 45 NAIA All-American honors and 71 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
