Davenport, Johnson named Athletes of Week

Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 12-18. Women’s basketball senior Lauren Davenport and men’s track senior Nick Johnson earned the honor for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

Lauren Davenport, an exercise science major from Andrews, Indiana (Huntington North High School) helped lead Huntington to a 2-0 week by averaging 16 points, 5.5 assists and 5.0 steals in the two wins. In the Foresters 66-54 win over Spring Arbor, she tallied 18 points, six assists and four steals and she netted 14 points, dished out five assists and had six steals to help lead the Foresters to a 75-58 victory over St. Francis. Huntington (14-4, 5-2) returns to action when they host the Marian Knights on Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.

Nick Johnson, an exercise science major from Huntington, Indiana (Huntington North High School) turned in an outstanding performance at the Ohio Northern University Invitational. Johnson won the 5000 meter event with a time of 15:23.80 which meets provisional qualifying standards to compete in the NAIA Indoor Track National Championships in early March. Johnson also finished second in the one mile run with a time of 4:27.20. The Foresters will next travel to Taylor University on Feb. 7 for a 10 a.m. start.
