Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov.12-18. Women’s basketball sophomore Courtney Beerbower and men’s basketball senior Doug Sheckler earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.
Courtney Beerbower, an elementary/special education major from Auburn, Ind. (DeKalb High School), had an outstanding week for the Huntington University Foresters. Beerbower averaged 18 points and nine rebounds and was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder in both games. She recorded the second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 boards against Aquinas, and she scored 20 points and had eight rebounds in Huntington’s 62-59 win over Judson University. The Foresters (4-1) return to action on Nov. 24 when they host Siena Heights University at 1 p.m.
Doug Sheckler
Doug Sheckler, an elementary education major from Columbia City, Ind. (Columbia City High School), helped lead Huntington to a 3-0 week. He averaged 19.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in the three wins. He scored 22 points in the Foresters’ 77-75 win over NAIA #4-ranked Cedarville University, and he had a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds in HU’s 86-79 overtime win over Campbellsville University who is ranked #11 in NAIA Division I. His efforts in the Ness Bros./HU Hall of Fame Tournament earned him tournament MVP honors. The Foresters (4-2) will next travel to Chicago to take on St. Xavier University on Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. (CST).
