Regional artists display work at Robert E. Wilson Gallery

Huntington, Ind.— The Robert E. Wilson Gallery in the Huntington College Merillat Centre for the Arts is pleased to host “Inspirations from Nature,” an art exhibit by Teri Fuller O’Brien and Mary Hettmansperger. The exhibit features a variety of works in textile, basketry and mixed media. The exhibit will be on display January 22 to February 20, and can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

An artist reception will be held on Saturday, January 31, from 6-7:30 p.m., in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery. The public is cordially invited to attend.

Teri Fuller O’Brien, from Huntington, Ind., teaches art at Northwest and Roanoke Elementary Schools. She holds a BFA in Ceramics and Textiles from the University of Iowa and a MEd in Special Education from Ohio University.

In her artwork, O’Brien seeks to explore the symbolism behind the elements within the visual world. “While color, texture and patterns are an integral part of my work, the symbolic essence of different shapes, values and color affect many of my compositions,” O’Brien said.

Mary Hettmansperger,from Peru, Ind., studied at Indiana Wesleyan University, Indiana University, and the University of Northern Colorado. Hettmansperger is a Fiber Artist with her focus on Basketry and beadwork. She has taught in 1992, 1995, and 2000 at Convergence, a National Fiber conference. She has also taught full time at national Basketry and Fiber Conferences, regional events, Guilds and private workshops for 18 years. Her work is featured in the “Gourd Book” cover of Bead work, Spring 2001 issue, and in exhibits at art fairs and galleries. She has won several awards for her pieces in Rib Construction, basketry, beadwork, and gourd work. She gave the 2002 Keynote address at the Michigan Basket Conference.

In her pieces, Hettmansperger strives to portray her passion for living. “I find inspiration from things that grow, whether it is in nature, relationships, or life itself,” she shared.
