Pearson, Mattox recognized with May Peer Award

Huntington, Ind.—Recipients of the Huntington University Peer Award for the month of May are David Pearson and Amy Mattox.

Dr. Ruth Nalliah passes the Peer Award to Dave Pearson.
Dr. Ruth Nalliah, professor of chemistry, passed the Peer Award to Dave Pearson. Pearson is a maintenance technician and has been with HU for four years.

In recognizing Pearson, Nalliah wrote, “I would especially like to thank Dave and his coworkers on the maintenance team for troubleshooting and maintaining complex systems in the Science Hall, including heating and cooling systems and water purification, and even taking on the task of fountain cleaning. Even though Dave has to work under a great deal of pressure, he is always courteous and persistent in troubleshooting difficult problems. He often seems to take a scientific approach when troubleshooting systems, although this approach may involve more effort. He goes above and beyond the call of duty, even checking on items after hours when necessary. We could not do the jobs that we do if we did not have this kind of support. Thank you, Dave, and the maintenance team, for your persistence in solving problems.”

Barbara Thompson (right) passes the Peer Award to Amy Mattox.
Barbara Thompson, administrative assistance to the president, passed the Peer Award to Amy Mattox. Mattox is director of graduate admissions and marketing and has been with the university for five years. In recognizing Mattox, Thompson said, “Amy is a wonderful co-worker and friend—always pleasant and kind. I am sure that her position as graduate admissions and marketing director is a challenging one as she is required to serve on the ‘frontlines’ representing the university with a wonderful outlook and a positive attitude. Her creativity and professionalism, as well as her previous experience as senior admissions counselor, has served her well in her new position. She has been an inspiration and encouragement to me on several occasions, most recently during a Christ@Center staff meeting. Thank you, Amy, for the impact you have had on my life.”
