HU professor takes first in State Fair photo competition

Bryan Ballinger, Huntington University, a Christian collegeHUNTINGTON, Ind. — Huntington University professor and noted animator, illustrator and photographer, Bryan Ballinger, took first place in the Indiana State Fair photo contest sponsored by the Indiana State Department of Agriculture.

The photo, “Indiana Soy,” was taken near Lancaster Elementary in Huntington. Ballinger, an associate professor of digital media arts at HU, will be honored at an awards ceremony at the fair on Farmer’s Day on Aug. 15.

Ballinger has been recognized many times for his photography. He recently exhibited his work at the Darkroom Gallery in Vermont. The show as titled “Secrets and Mysteries.” His piece, “What's Inside” was photographed at the 509 Church in Huntington. Learn more about the exhibit at www.darkroomgallery.com/ex30. Two of his pieces have also been accepted into the regional photo competition for the Carnegie Show. One photo shows lightening moving across the sky, and the other was taken at a health event at the Huntington hospital. Learn more about the exhibit at www.thecarnegie.com.
Ballinger’s photos were also selected to be on display at the new Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. These floral photographs are also on display at Northside Galleries in Fort Wayne. The exhibit is called “Floral Fever.”

Ballinger has worked as an illustrator for companies such as Microsoft, Nintendo, Disney and Harley Davidson. He was also the lead 3D designer for five years at Big Idea Productions, the creators of VeggieTales. He earned his B.F.A. in illustration from Columbus College of Art and Design and his M.F.A. from Lesley University.
