Huntington University has announced that Frankfort High School senior Kyle Zerfas has committed to play baseball
at HU this fall. In 2010 this right hander was 6-2 with a 1.45 ERA. In 38.2 innings pitched Zerfas had 47 strikeouts and gave up 25 hits. Opponents hit only .181 against him. He opened the 2010 season with
four consecutive shutouts.
“We are very excited that Kyle has chosen Huntington University,” says head
baseball coach Mike Frame. “Even though we return our entire pitching staff, he will have a chance to come in and help us right away. He was sidelined a little during
the season with a separated shoulder, but his numbers were still outstanding. He is athletic and was a solid outfielder at Frankfort, but we will primarily look at him on
the mound. He has good velocity, a plus breaking ball, and throws strikes. Kyle is
an outstanding addition to our program.”
Huntington University is a member of the Mid Central Conference (MCC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). On the baseball field HU
has captured the MCC season regular season championship or conference tournament championship 28 times in 50 years, including a conference tournament championship in 2010. The conference championship qualified the Foresters for the national tournament. The HU baseball program has had eight former players go on
to careers in professional baseball, including Heath Luther with the Anaheim Angels
in 2001 and Greg Slee with the Seattle Mariners in 2004.
Huntington University is a Christian liberal arts college located in Huntington, IN,
with an enrollment of approximately 1100 students. Athletically, HU competes in fourteen intercollegiate sports for both men and women.
Kyle is the son of William and Carla Zerfas of Frankfort, Ind.
