Welch, Slee receive Forester Athlete of the Week honors

Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington College athletic department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of April 5-11, 2004. Women’s track senior Brooke Welch and men’s baseball senior Greg Slee earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.

Brooke Welch

Brooke Welch, a broadcast communications and public relations double major from Berne, Ind., (South Adams High School), had an outstanding day at Huntington’s dual track meet with Bethel College on Thursday. Welch won the 3000 meter steeplechase and ran the third leg of two winning relay teams. The Foresters won the 4x100 relay and the 4x400 relay. Bethel won the meet, 88-67. The Foresters will next run at the Earlham College Invitational on Saturday, April 17, at 11:00 a.m.

Greg Slee

Greg Slee, a history and social studies education major from Liberty Center, Ohio (Liberty Center High School), helped lead the Forester baseball team to a 3-2 record for the week. As Huntington’s starting catcher, Slee tallied nine hits, three runs scored, and two runs batted in (RBI) for the week. In a single game on Tuesday against Anderson University, Slee had four hits, including three singles and a RBI double, and scored three runs in the Foresters 13-10 win. Huntington is currently 11-13 on the season and 8-4 in conference play. The Foresters next host Goshen College for a doubleheader in Forest Glen Park on Tuesday, April 13 at 3:30 p.m.

The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past seven years, Huntington has produced 47 NAIA All-American honors and 78 All-American Scholar Athlete honors.
