Taking on Taylor University, the top team in the MCC, the Forester baseball
team struggled at the plate as they came up short, losing 10-4 and 7-0, at Forest Glen on Friday night.
Taylor grabbed the early 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, scattering 11hits and eight more runs over the next five innings to slowly put HU away. The Foresters finally came alive in the bottom of the sixth when they strung together four consecutive hits that led to two runs. Jarod Hammel then knocked in another run with his single and brother Jamon's sacrifice fly accounted for the final HU run but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the Trojans' lead.
Mitch Bowers took the loss for HU giving up seven runs on twelve hits. Eric Schultz paced the Foresters with two hits.
The nightcap was not much different than the first game in that Taylor took command early and outslugged the Foresters 10-3 to cruise to the easy 7-0 victory. It looked like HU was going to make some noise in the fourth when Schultz started things off with a single to center and then Adam Christner reached first on a walk. Jordan Klopfenstein then loaded the bases when he bunted for a base hit but the Foresters' rally fell short when Ryan Shell flew out to leave three runners stranded.
Xyan Adkisson was the losing pitcher for HU giving up three runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out three.
