Smelser, William earn Athlete of the Week honors

Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Aug. 27 to Sept. 2. Women’s volleyball sophomore Brittney Smelser and men’s soccer senior Marc Anthony William earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

Brittney Smelser, a business management major from Huntington, Ind. (Huntington North High School), helped lead Huntington to a 3-1 record to open the Foresters’ volleyball season at the Kalamazoo College Tournament. Smelser led the team in kills in all four matches with a total of 85 on the weekend, and she added 46 digs and five aces on her serve. Her efforts also earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team. The Foresters next travel to Taylor University to open play in the Mid-Central Conference on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.

Marc William
Marc Anthony William, a business management major from Arima, Trinidad, kicked off his senior season with two goals and an assist on the weekend. His first score and assist of the season both came against Shawnee State University to help HU get the 2-1 win. Against Aquinas College, William netted the Foresters’ lone goal. The men return to action on Sept. 5 when they travel to Franklin College for a 5 p.m. start.
