GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Despite being outshot 34-7, the Huntington women’s soccer team held Aquinas College scoreless through regulation to force an extra period where the Saints finally cracked Coach Tillett’s defense for the 1-0 overtime win Wednesday afternoon in Grand Rapids.

Aquinas controlled tempo throughout much of the match, managing 14 shots on goal, but HU showed plenty of grit by holding off the Saints from finding back netting until a quickly played free kick was volleyed in the far post just over six minutes into OT.

Mary Whybrew went the distance in goal to finish with 13 saves.

“Improvement was noticeable from last week to this week,” said Tillett. “Our speed of play, passing, and intensity were all much improved, which was required against a very good Aquinas team.

“I was very proud of our effort and composure. The schedule does not get any easier the next week or two, but I believe we will rise up to meet the challenge.”

With this loss, HU drops to 0-2. The Foresters are back in action Saturday when they travel to Bluffton University for a 2:00 p.m. matchup.
