2010-06-23
Huntington University has announced that Lafayette Jefferson High School senior pitcher, John Ripke, has committed to play baseball at HU this fall. In 2010 the 6’5 left hander was 6-2 with a 3.36 ERA. In 56.1 innings pitched, he had 47 strikeouts.

“We are very excited that John has signed to attend HU this fall,” says head baseball coach Mike Frame. “He has all the qualities that you are looking for in a recruit. His size and ability on the mound will allow him to have an outstanding career as a
pitcher for us. He knows how to pitch now and as he gets stronger he will develop outstanding velocity. He is an outstanding student and was a Youth For Christ student leader at his high school. We are very excited that he will be a Forester in
the fall.”

Huntington University is a member of the Mid Central Conference (MCC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). On the baseball field HU
has captured the MCC season regular season championship or conference tournament championship 28 times in 50 years, including a conference tournament championship in 2010. The conference championship qualified the Foresters for the opening round of the NAIA national tournament. The HU baseball program has had eight former players go on to careers in professional baseball, including Heath
Luther with the Anaheim Angels in 2001 and Greg Slee with the Seattle Mariners in 2004.

Huntington University is a Christian liberal arts college located in Huntington, IN, with an enrollment of approximately 1100 students. Athletically, HU competes in fourteen intercollegiate sports for both men and women.

John is the son of Gerald and Kris Ripke of Lafayette, Ind.
