New named Indiana Youth Bowler of the Year


HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The awards continue to pile up for Huntington University incoming freshman Shelby New. On Saturday, the Greenwood, Ind. native was named this year’s Indiana Youth Girl’s Bowler of the Year at the 2013 Indiana State Youth Bowling Association Jamboree at the Marriott Convention Center in Indianapolis.

New was chosen by the Indiana State Youth Board based on her accomplishments this past season which include her league bowling, finishes in high school sectional, regional, semi-state and state finals, youth tournaments throughout Indiana and success as a two-year member of the Indiana Queens and Indiana All-Stars.

Also topping her laundry list of accomplishments, New most recently finished 22nd at the 2013 North Pointe USBC Junior Gold Championships in Detroit last month.

New will be a member of the Forester bowling team this fall and plans to major in nursing. 

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 39 NAIA All-America honors and 213 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations. U.S.News & World Report ranks Huntington among the best colleges in the Midwest.
