HUNTINGTON, Ind. – With the books closed on another Forester basketball season, the awards continue to pile up for Huntington University senior Shane Merryman. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its 2013-14 Division II Men’s Basketball All-America teams and Merryman was one of ten Crossroads League players to be honored.

Merryman, an NAIA Third Team All-America pick last year, saved his best for last. The Fort Wayne native (Carroll HS) led his team in scoring (21.6 ppg) and rebounding (8.0 rpg) and for his efforts received NAIA Second Team All-America honors.

A quick glance at Merryman’s stats explains why the 6-5 forward garnered so much national attention. He finished 16th in NAIA Division II in scoring, 20th field goal percentage (.570) and 24th in total rebounds (255).

In addition to earning accolades from the NAIA, Merryman also earned the respect of the Crossroads’ coaches by being voted First Team All-Conference for the second consecutive year. He topped the league in offensive rebounds/game (2.75) and field goal percentage, finished second in scoring and third in total rebounds/game.

Merryman joins an elite group of seven Foresters who have scored over 2,000 points. He wrapped up his collegiate career with 2,025 points which places him 7th on HU’s all-time scoring list. He averaged 16.2 points and 6.5 rebounds each outing during his four years in green and white.
