Merryman earns his 5th HU Athlete of the Week honor

HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of November 4, 2013. Men’s basketball senior Shane Merryman earned the honor for his outstanding effort over the weekend.

Merryman, a physical education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Carroll H.S.), guided his squad to a pair of blow-out wins at the Purdue Calumet Classic and for his efforts was named the Classic’s MVP. The 6-5 forward scored 17 points and pulled down eight boards in HU’s 95-67 win over Judson University on Friday night.

He followed up that effort with a game-high 24 points on 8-for-9 shooting and ripped down a game-best eight rebounds to go along with four assists and two steals in a 92-66 victory over the host Peregrines on Saturday.

The Foresters (2-0) are back in action on Tuesday when they host Purdue University North Central at 7:00 p.m.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 39 NAIA All-America honors and 213 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
